HingÂMAFARANGA
BACKGROUND OF OUR NGO

HingÂMAFARANGA Rwanda is a youth-led non-governmental organization founded through a collaboration between alumni, students, and lecturers (researchers) from the University of Rwanda, College of Agriculture, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine (UR-CAVM), and smallholder farmers in North-Western Rwanda. The organization bridges academia and grassroots practice to promote inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agricultural development across the country.

Agriculture is the backbone of Rwanda's economy, employing approximately 70% of the population. Despite its importance, subsistence farming remains dominant, sustaining nearly 76% of Rwandans and constraining the pace of the country's agricultural transformation agenda (NISR, 2020). Addressing this challenge requires innovative, market-oriented, and knowledge-driven approaches.

In response, HingÂMAFARANGA Rwanda designs and implements monetized agribusiness models that facilitate the adoption of sustainable agricultural technologies. Through farmer capacity building, innovation dissemination, and value chain–focused interventions, the organization supports smallholder farmers to transition from subsistence to commercially viable agriculture, driving income growth and strengthening long-term livelihood resilience.
